Eligibility for the MM2H Gold and Platinum Tiers

For both the Gold and Platinum Tiers, applicants must be at least 25 years old. The Gold Tier has less stringent financial requirements compared to the Platinum Tier, but both demand a stable financial background. The Gold Tier requires a fixed deposit of USD 500,000 in a licensed Malaysian bank, whereas the Platinum Tier demands a higher deposit of USD 1 million. Regardless of the tier, applicants must also be financially stable to support their residency.

The Financial Commitment: Fixed Deposits & Property Purchases

The financial commitment is a cornerstone of both the Gold and Platinum Tiers. Gold Tier participants must deposit USD 500,000 in a Malaysian bank, while Platinum Tier participants must deposit USD 1 million. After one year, up to 50% of this deposit can be accessed for approved expenses, such as healthcare, property purchase, education, or tourism within Malaysia.
Property purchases are also a requirement for both tiers. Gold Tier participants must buy a residential property in Malaysia worth at least RM 1 million, while Platinum Tier participants must invest in a property valued at a minimum of RM 2 million. The property purchase not only secures housing but also supports Malaysia’s economy. Note that the resale of properties is restricted for 10 years in both tiers, though upgrading to a more expensive property is allowed.

Visa Duration, Renewal, and Minimum Stay

The visa duration varies between the two tiers. Gold Tier participants are granted a 15-year visa, renewable every five years, while Platinum Tier participants receive a 20-year visa, also renewable every five years. Both tiers require a minimum stay of 90 days per year, which can be fulfilled by either the applicant or their dependents. For applicants aged 25-49, this stay requirement can be accumulated through the principal applicant or dependents.

Bringing Your Family: Dependents and Domestic Helpers

Both the Gold and Platinum Tiers allow applicants to bring their family members as dependents. This includes spouses, children under 21, unmarried children between 21 and 34 who are not employed, and even disabled children of any age. In addition, parents, parents-in-law, and foreign domestic helpers can also be included in the application.

Employment and Business Activities

Neither the Gold nor Platinum Tiers allow applicants to engage in employment or business activities without the appropriate work permits. However, Platinum Tier participants enjoy the unique advantage of being able to engage in business activities in Malaysia without needing a separate work permit, offering more flexibility compared to the Gold Tier. If you plan to work in Malaysia, you'll need to apply for a separate work permit regardless of your tier.

Health Insurance

Both tiers require approved participants and their dependents to have valid medical insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in Malaysia. Waivers may be granted for applicants who are unable to secure health insurance due to age or pre-existing conditions.

Application Process for the MM2H Gold and Platinum Tiers

To apply for either the Gold or Platinum Tier, you’ll need to work with a licensed MM2H agent. The application process involves submitting necessary documents, such as proof of financial standing, passports, and medical insurance. After submission, you will receive conditional approval, which allows you to open your fixed deposit account, purchase medical insurance, and undergo a medical check-up. Once all conditions are met, you’ll receive final approval and can proceed with the issuance of your visa.

Renewal of MM2H Gold and Platinum Tiers

Both the Gold and Platinum MM2H passes are renewable every five years. To renew, applicants must submit updated documents such as their passport, health insurance, and medical reports. The renewal fee is RM 5,000 for the principal applicant and their dependents. If the visa holder passes away, the visa can be transferred to a direct family member.

Is the MM2H Gold or Platinum Tier Right for You?

Both the Gold and Platinum Tiers offer long-term residency in Malaysia, with the Platinum Tier providing more premium benefits. The decision between the two tiers depends on your financial capacity and personal preferences. The Platinum Tier is ideal for those looking for more flexibility, including the ability to engage in business without a separate work permit. However, both tiers offer excellent residency options, allowing you to secure your future in Malaysia with access to healthcare, education, and other essential services.
Carefully consider your financial situation and long-term goals to determine which tier is best suited for you. If you’re unsure, consulting with a licensed MM2H agent is highly recommended for personalized advice and assistance throughout the application process.
